Character Time Line
Character Origin (part 1): Comic Origin coupled with research
Character Origin (Part 2):
I plan on developing Dani as just having came back from Asgard after being missing. Dani has been in the service of Hela hence her bond with Brightwind. I want to explore Dani coming back and adjusting to a normal life that doesn't involve servitude to an Asgardian Death Goddess and the possibility of becoming a member of the X-men.
Year 1 (2004)
- Invokes the image of her parent's (Peg and William Lonestar) death at a tribal celebration, predicting that her parents would be killed by a demon bear.
- A few months later Peg and William Lonestar are brutally killed by the psychic image of the demon bear. Dani is driven from the Cheyenne Reservation in Boulder.
Year 2 (2004-2005)
- Dani Moonstar is taken in by her family friends the Roberts, developing a close friendship with their son Pat Roberts. One night at dinner Pat makes a comment towards Dani that causes her to become emotional. Dani's power activates and she projects Pat's greatest desires, this humiliates Pat and scares the Roberts into forcing her from their home.
Year 3 (2006-2008)
- Dani is taken in by her grand father and shaman Black Eagle. He takes her into the Colorado wilderness. There he teaches Dani how to control her abilities, and how to survive in the wilderness. He teaches her how to hunt, how to survive the harsh seasons and when she is ready, Dani is made to confront the demon bear that killed her parents.
- Dani thwarts the demon bear with the development of her neural arrows, learning that she can manifest empathic energy into weapons.
Year 4 (2009)
- Black Eagle passes away from old age. This leaves Dani completely alone in the world, she is surrounded by death and feels she has nothing left in the world.
Year 5 (2010-2016)
- Dani is ripped from Midgard and taken to Asgard. Here she empathically bonds with one of Odin's War Horses, Brightwind, with that bond she is accepted into the Valkyrior as the first non Asgardian to hold the mantle of Valkyrie.
- A year into her service of the Valkyrior Dani is ripped away form her sisters and taken by Hela, she is forced to work as her Dark Rider and attempts were made to resurrect Hela's Doom Maidens which subsequently failed when the rest of the Valkyrior fought back. Dani is released from Hela and is given the option to return to Midgard, she gladly accepts, taking Brightwind with her.
- Dani has now sought out the X-Men in hopes that she can lend her battle knowledge and powers to their cause.
Significant relationships
(These are people important in shaping your character, Mother, Father, Villain, Hero, etc.)
Peg Lonestar - Mother; Dani held a deep love for her mother. She looked up to her as a strong and supportive woman who taught Dani how to be a strong independent woman. While Dani only had a short time in life with her mother, she feels strong pangs of guilt when thinking about her death, and often blames herself for what happened to her.
William Lonestar - Father; Dani's father was a highly decorated member of the Boulder Cheyenne Nation, much like his status of his father, Black Eagle, he held a high status and Dani revered him, and sometimes found him intimidating to be around. Like the death of her mother, Dani feels guilty for his death and blames herself.
Black Eagle - Grand Father; This is the one person in Dani's life that accepted her for who she was. Black Eagle was a shaman for the Cheyenne nation, but refused to live on the reservation and preferred to live among nature and the wilderness. He taught Dani everything she needed to know to survive on her own and instilled hope within her when she didn't have any.
Pat Roberts - Former Best Friend; Dani's one and only best friend, she alienated and humiliated him completely, thus ruining any sort of friendship with him entirely. This situation has caused Dani to be closed off from making any sort of new relationships as she feels she will ruin what she's built.
Brightwind - Empathic Linked Pegasus; She'd consider Brightwind her best friend, in the sense that the two are bonded on a psychic level and they can feel one another's thoughts and emotions. Currently Dani considers Brightwind not only a friend but her last family member. She will fight for him to the death as he would do the same for her.
The Valkyrior - Heroes; Dani's one true connection to Asgard, she was welcomed into their fold once she bonded with Brightwind. She shared a strong bond with these women on both a friendly way and a maternal way in that they cared for and protected her when and if she could not hold her own.
Hela - Villain; Dani was warped and twisted by Hela's magic and became her Dark Rider. She was forced to fight against her sisters and it caused her great anguish to try and fell those she considered a family. Hela stripped what ever hope Dani had from her and left her a broken person after she was defeated.
Powers / Abilities
(List as many as you need)
Empathic Illusion Casting - Dani, while not a telepath, is able to reach into the minds of a target and project their greatest desires or fears. She is able to create three-dimensional images of visual concepts from thoughts and emotional impressions from within the minds of others. She can use her powers to derive and project specific images from another person’s mind and they do not have to be related to emotional states. In doing this she is able to project images around herself and others in change her appearance or the appearance of others.
These 3-D images that she creates are similar to holograms and can be seen by anyone in their vicinity. However, only the people that she derived the images from can perceive them as real. To other people they appear as immaterial illusions. She can also use this power to derive images from multiple people, but the item, or person will be different depending on what the person’s perception is or how they see the object in their own mind.
She can use this power to derive and project images of fear from the minds of animals as well. The only thing with that is that the animal would be the only thing seeing it. This works on most animals but nothing with the lower intelligence of a fish or insect.
Neural Arrows: She is able to focus her psionic powers into energy arrows which can stun an opponent by disrupting their central nervous system, or force them to relive a traumatic memory.
Animal Empathy: Dani is able to create a quasi rapport with most animals. She can sense their feelings, consciously perceive images in their minds, and even see through their eyes. However, since an animal's ability to conceptualize is highly limited, she was limited as to what she telepathically could learn from an animal.
Death Sense: Dani is able to perceive a death glow around people before they are about to die. Dani may choose to intervene in stopping the persons death if she is able (so long as it's not illness or old age), furthermore Dani is able to perceive Death in all forms it takes.
Weaknesses
- Dani often does not let people get close to her, as such she often comes off as cold or angry. She has an issue developing intimate relationships as she refuses to let anyone get close to her, often times afraid she will relive what she did to Pat.
- Dani has a hard time with her emotions, finding that she does get emotional enough to the point she makes rash and dangerous choices.
- Due to the abuse she went through with Hela she has developed PTSD
Audition post
She wasn’t really sure how to deal with coming back into the land of the normal. Nothing was really normal here. She opted to hide in the Canadian Wilderness; it was where she was most comfortable. Where she felt she belonged. The snow was heavy and she was always prepared for climates that were harsh, as trained by her grand father to survive these environments.
Dani had found an abandoned hunting cabin when she arrived, complete with a stable that had seen it’s days long passed. Brightwind was fine with it, Dani on the other hand was not sure the world was ready for such a creature to be seen. He understood that. She appreciated that bond and understanding.
The sun was going down, making it easier to see with a blanket of snow on the land. As the trees broke into open plain, Dani walked. She was bundled up, her hair braided down the side and out of the way, a hood pulled up over her head and cloth over her mouth, but her breath still hung in the air. She crouched low as she followed a group of deer. Her bow was held low, arrow knocked as she followed the large muscular buck. Dani stood slowly pulling the bow up and just as she was going to release the arrow the sound of a breaking twig signals to the right of her. She turns.
Her bow was still ready, she was ready to let that arrow fly but she was not prepared to see what was barreling at her. Two tons of angry brown fury, its lumbering frame tore its way towards her in an angry roar. Dani let the arrow go at the bear but one measly hunting arrow was not enough to take down a charging mother bear. She doesn’t even check to see if the arrow hits, she just runs, she hears it chuff and roar as it ran after her, and once again she pulls back her bowstring. This time no arrow was pulled, but one manifested in her hands in a crackle of psionic energy. ”I’m sorry.” She whispered as she leapt to the side and let the arrow go. It hits the bear, but the damage wasn’t physical. The bear roared in mental anguish. Dani hit the ground hard, sinking into the snow. It was going to take more than just one of those neural arrows to take this fucking bear down. It was dazed for a moment, and immediately it turned and refocused on her as she pulled back another and let it fly at the charging animal.
The arrow hit the bear dead between the eyes and exploded in a flurry of white and blue. It was enough to bring it down, it falling mid run and tumbling towards Dani. She only had a moment to move before she would be crushed by the weight of this animal, she moved, finding it hard to roll in the snow, and that crushing weight fell on her leg. Dani let loose a scream as she was pinned. She dug her bow into the snow and pulled herself out from under the bear as best she could before she withdrew her knife. She looked to the sky, in some silent thanks for this horrible gift. Dani dug her blade into the throat of the bear, spilling hot blood across the snow. Steam rose from its throat and she did her best to soothe the animal as she killed it. Her lower half now soaked in blood. She felt she’d never get that copper smell out of her nose at this point. After she was sure the animal was dead, even with the pain in her leg she fell back into the snow and just took several deep breaths. Brightwind would come. She was sure of it. For now Dani gathered herself and sat back up. She pushed the bear’s head off her leg as best she could, using her bow to dig snow out from around her as she wiggled and grit her teeth. She was sure something was broken, or sprained. Either way it hurt.
As Dani managed to get her leg out from under the bear she heard the approach of something else behind her. She grabbed for her bow and turned, reaching out to figure out what it was. Brightwind. The white Pegasus emerged in a slow curious gait, his head down as he looked upon the scene. He shook his head and Dani just nodded. ”Long story.” Is all she says as the Pegasus moves along side her and pulls her to her feet with a gentle grasp on the back of her jacket. Dani looked at the dead bear with a sad stare. This wasn’t how this was supposed to go. But she’d manage it. She would take the ropes she carried with her and tie the creature to Brightwind and then she’d climb atop his back. ”Lets go home.” Dani whispered as she slung her bow on her back and leaned down to rest her face against the mane of the animal in a silent thank you.
She would have plenty to eat this winter thanks to this creature’s death, plenty of furs and other things to use. It wasn’t all that bad, but her leg was most of her worry. She would take the long trip back through the woods, just as the moon hung high in the sky. She untied the bear from Brightwind and hobbled to the cabin’s wrap around porch, though Brightwind was hot on her tail, using his head to help support her as she went up the steps. Dani took a seat and began the long task of removing her boots and rolling up layers of pants. Her leg was already bruised, foot swollen and purple. ”Don’t look at me like that.” she says to the Pegasus. ”There aren’t healers here. There are doctors, and I don’t think any professional doctor would appreciate me riding you to the ER drop off for help. But I think I know a few people who might be okay with an Asgardian war horse hanging around.” He didn’t get it. ”I will see a ‘healer’ in the morning.” She says as she looks at the large black lump that sat ten feet out. She sighed heavily and pulled her bow off her back and tossed it onto the worn wooden porch. What a night.
