The gardens in the West yard of the Institute were beautiful. Lush greens and vibrant flowers, well manicured all around a shallow, rectangular pond. The hedges lined the pebble walkways crunched under her slow footfalls as her fingertips brushed against the fine corners of the trimmed bushes. Blue eyes graced over the nearly placid surface of the pond until it broke into ripples from the small fountain spewing in four directions. The brunette's petite form strayed off the path, over the fresh-cut grass and onto the stone ledge around the pond, the sound of the trickling water soothing as she knelt and wrapped one hand over the nape of her neck, gazing at her reflection there.
Her double stared back with a thoughtful grace, contemplative yet slightly somber. Just below the surface the koi fish swam to and fro under the cover of lily pads. Kitty absent-mindedly picked at the edges of her converse and chewed on her lower lip. The gardens were peaceful, quiet, a sharp contrast to the busying halls of the mansion. It was nice to be around others like her, sure, but it was also impossible to get someplace where she didn't hear arguments over who drank the rest of the orange juice or who took al the hot water and left fur in the drain. Most of the chatter always went over her anyway, she hadn't tried to much make friends with anyone yet. Not that some weren't friendly, just that she hadn't found the confidence to speak up and try to be herself. The Professor had assured her that it was a matter of time and she'd open her shell when she was ready, as well as not to be afarid to open up. But so far, it just hadn't happened.
Nemesis Sorry, but it's always Brynjar drinking the last of the orange juice, at least recently. Though he'd much rather avoid the arguments and simply stayed out of that. Childishness was something Brynjar has never expressed, not since he was young. Currently, jogging down the pebble path in the gardens, wearing nothing but a pair of shorts, armband with iPod and tennis shoes. He'd already set out for his daily routine early this morning and was just finishing it off. Late afternoon to early evening is the general time he'd finished his daily workout if it wasn't one of his off days. To finish off his work out, he'd turn a corner bush, just in time to see someone sitting(assuming she is), picking at their shoes and watching the fish dance beneath the glassy pond. He'd never seen her before. Then again, he'd only been here what, since winter and mostly only roamed the place at night? Held very few conversations with anyone, say for Christopher and Jean. Fingers flicked the earbuds from his ear as he watched for a moment, not the girl, but the koi. How majestic and fluid they moved, not a care in the world or a thought of the world outside. Must be nice to live like that. He however, had concerns, life outside, if the homo sapiens would ever get their head out of their ass and stop living in fear. Well, might as well be polite, right? Shaking various thoughts from his head, he took a few steps toward the pond. "Excuse, may join you?" He spoke, aiming for her attention.
Kitty just barely caught the reflection smeared acros the pond approaching her before she heard the accented boy behind her. She stood and turned at once, chestnut hair whipping from the pony tail atop her head. He was taller than her, but most everyone was as she was practically an elf, and she couldn't help but blush slightly at his naked top half. Noting the shorts and Ipod band, running shoes and his breathing pattern, lead to make her believe he was running. "Oh," her voice was soft, shy and a little unsure as pearly whites chewed her lower lip. Who was she kidding? Tell him no? Wasn't this what Professor was talking about? Be yourself, be confident and make friends. And he'd approached with grace, not jumped onto her and broken er space right off the bat, which had apparently become a thing in the crowded institute. She nodded, "Yeah, of course." Half-turning, she shrugged, "I was just admiring the koi. They're rather relaxing."
The brunette slipped her hand forward gently, "I'm Kitty, Kitty Pryde." What was the code for introducing yourself around here? Was she supposed to include her ability? Is that what the others did? 'Jean Grey, Telepath'? But if she was wrong, it made it weirder, right? Finding herself tossing her insecurities around like the inside of a rinse cycle, she took a breath and smiled. "This is probably stupid to point out, but are you running?"
Nemesis The moment she had stood to greet her, his eyes shifted immediately from the pond to her. Respectfully, he was giving her his attention, instead of the Koi. "You need no tell me reason. Come to enjoy K...Ko..." he spoke, pausing for a moment, tongue touching the tip of his lip. "Koi." There we go, that's the word. Brynjar wasn't one to be rude, he found it just about as appalling as vulgarity. Yes, that's right; vulgarity appealing to a teenager. Eyes scanned from the tips of her shoe laces to that graceful chestnut hair of hers, drinking in every flaw and perfection she had. Though, he did find the discussion of one's powers rude, as he'd expressed before, it was how one approached the subject of asking. Flat out asking, now that was rude, if you were polite about it, it was okay then. Once he'd finished examining her, his eyes directed for hers, just in time for a poised question. So, permission granted to join her, he'd step on down toward her; offering a nod. "Yes, getting in regular exercise." Stepping adjacent to her left, his right had extended, he completed the introduction. "Brnyjar Bjørn."
Kitty smiled and tilted her head, hair swaying again as her eyes lit up slightly. Her rather pixie-like nose scrunched with the grin as she slipped her hand into his and shook. The way he spoke was interesting, exotic in comparison to the normal American accent she was accustomed to. Kitty had never had the opportunity to travel but she'd always wanted to study abroad, the Institute being as far away from her Illinois home as she'd ever been. It was an instant interest to hear more of his accent, something of a nice change from the norm. "Br-Bryn...Brynjar?" She giggled softly, something like the sound of bubbles bursting on the surface as she withdrew her hand and brushed her fingertips to the side of her jaw before sobering, clearing her throat and correcting herself. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend. I've never met anyone with your accent before, it's rather intriguing. Is it...Norwegian perhaps?"
She'd meant absolutely no offense by her laughter, or her entirely poor pronunciation of his name. Rather, she liked the name, it was just something she wasn't used to trying out on her tongue, something like how he seemed to try out saying 'koi.' But the girl's kind smile hoped to ease any discomfort her failed attempts might have disrupted in him.
Nemesis He was used to people by now trying to pronounce his name, but she was the first to pronounce it right the first time. If he had a had, he'd tip it to her. "Is fine," he spoke waving his hand. "You pronounce right, most need moment." Yet, she was also very good at guessing where exactly he was from, this girl was intelligent, he found that very intriguing and attractive. "This place, most filled with native, am sure it refreshing to hear foreign voice." Conversations like this, he found refreshing. Meeting new people was always the highlight of his day when he could manage it. But he was a particular person, much favoring intelligence in friendships. "Kitty, what bring out here?" he asked, head canting to the side. She knew what brought him outside, but what was she doing out here? Escaping the dregs of the school, the constant bantering of house mates over the most mundane of things? For instance, this morning there was an argument over who's turn it was to wash dishes, another over who's turn it was at the PS4. Why were they up at 6 am playing video games and not studying? Maybe even getting some exercise in! Looking toward the pond a moment, he caught notice of the koi splashing about for bugs. Now that looked like fun, swimming that is. Glancing off toward her, he'd offer a half-cocked smlie. "I know we just meet, but want do something? Exercise done with."
His smile seemed reassuring, as though he hadn't taken offense. In face, he seemed rather pleased with her attempt to saying his name. And he was right, it was a pleasure to hear his foreign accent. He asked what brought her out to the gardens and she realized his excuse for exercising seemed more normal than her wandering away from the mansion and to the empty grounds. Looking rather caught, she took a breath and shook her head, glancing at the pond with a forlorn set to her sky blue eyes. This morning had been a particularly loud one, people shouting over the table about the dishes piling up. She'd waited for several moments for it to be settled before sighing and doing them herself while they argued. Kitty had finished the chore and turned around to find everyone had left the kitchen. Maybe that's what had made her so peeved she'd chosen to escape the mansion for the afternoon. "I'm...not used to such a loud household. I'm an only child and the business is a little strenuous at times."
Kitty noted his sudden smile and it brought a wry, slightly distrusting look in return. What was he plotting? Slowly, she answered, "Sure...we could do something. What did you have in mind?"
