Description.
- Physique:
While petite in size, she has refined muscles accentuating her lithe form. She didn't tend to be wasteful with her energy and yet there was limited fat to round out her athletic build. - Appearance:
Her visage was typically serious, yet relaxed. While her heavy-lidded gaze held to being solemn as well, it was actively observant of the going-ons around her and what persons were involved. She tended to wear dark hues that hugged her figure and bared her midriff; easy to blend and easy to move. She had retractable claws laced with adamantium numbering six in total, a pair each at the knuckles on her hands and one at the front of each foot. - Personality:
Quiet, calm, and articulately taciturn. She's not prone to speaking more than necessary or in slang when she does. Laura is watchful and alert, ready to leap into any unforeseen fray due to extensive training to keep her ever on her toes. There's an underlying sense of self-destruction about her, though she's never able to do any real harm to herself other than to allow danger to overcome her in any given situation. She is loyal to a fault once it is earned of her and her selflessness knows no bounds. She is not warm in nature, though, making her company an acquired taste. Her silent gracefulness alluded to danger overall, but it was only when triggered did she become a feral-like assassin.
Character Time-Line.
Character Origin (part 1): Comics origin, research.
Character Origin (Part 2): I'm planning on taking her persona and developing a variation take on not only the internal outcome from her traumatic history outlined in the comics, but how she evolves afterward and responds to becoming more 'human-like'. Due to the importance of her early years in shaping her into the mutant clone that she is, though, I plan on keeping her time growing up at The Facility pretty on par with what is written in the comics. Her timeline will also be altered to fit into this group, omitting some canon events and relationships that might not have been established when she joins the X-Men entirely. The fleshing out of the character will be due to research and future roleplays that shall give her definition.
Year 1 (1999)-
- X-23 is born to Dr. Sarah Kinney, the scientist who became an unwilling surrogate when she successfully discovered what to combine into an embryo in order to clone part of Wolverine's damaged genome and recreate a weaponized individual.
Year 2 (1999-2006)-
- She was raised by and within The Facility, treated as something between a machine and an animal. She was abused and conditioned to have all sense of self-worth and humanity stripped from her.
- X-23 began her conditioning to become a hired child assassin, but also martial arts and various studies that would improve her into her destiny to become a weapon.
Year 3 (2006)-
- Dr. Zander Rice grew impatient with waiting for X-23's mutant gene to activate. He conducted an experiment where she'd be exposed to a high dosage of radiation poisoning, which did bring about her mutation and healing powers, and then he proceeded to extract her six claws {two from each hand and one from each foot} only to coat them with adamantium and put them back inside of her... all without anesthesia.
- She nearly died.
- Dr. Rice created a particular scent that would trigger X-23 into a blind rage and slaughter against her will. He first tested its effectiveness when he poisoned her Sensei's sword before one of her lessons, sending her into a frenzy and kill the only person who actually treated her like a human.
- She lost hold of her humanity after this event.
Year 4 (2010)-
- She was skillfully trained and prepared by The Facility that at eleven years old, X-23 was one of the most sought after paid assassins.
Year 5 (2010-2012)-
- After endless missions where she perfectly performed despite many obstacles given to her by Dr. Zander Rice, his ever-growing hatred for her had led her to do terrible things; such as killing off the entire family of the project's coordinator, Dr. Martin Sutter.
- This is the first time she faltered in her orders and she did not kill the man's only child.
- Sarah plans a dual escape. X-23 is freed and went into a murderous rage until she found Dr. Rice and beat him to death, but the late Dr. Rice had one more evil trick up his sleeve; he had put the trigger scent on Sarah herself so that when her daughter saw her next, she would turn into a monster and savagely kill her mother. Which she did, but not before she gave X-23 her name 'Laura' and saying that she loved her.
- Shortly after that when Laura found a package Sarah had left her, containing all the information she needed about and to find the one she was cloned from, Wolverine.
Year 6 (2012-2015)-
Year 5 (2016)-
- Laura spends time in conflict of her nature and her past, becoming a mostly mute mutant who was half-heartedly searching for her 'father' figure when she moves to New York City and unintentionally becomes entangled in a prostitution ring. Eventually coming out of the fog and to her senses, she escapes and renews her fervor to find this Wolverine.
Year 5 (2016)-
- She is successful and finds the Institute, joining the ranks of the X-Men as a student.
Significant relationships.
- Dr. Sarah Kinney {deceased.}
- Surrogate mother and creator; Sarah was a reluctant parent at first, though her role was strictly to raise a weapon and not a child. She came around as much as she was able, giving X-23 a small idea of what it meant to be cared for. She would secretly read her fairy tales during her studies and ultimately her suppressed love for her successful creation was what led to X-23's escape and her own demise at the girl's hand.
- Wolverine
- Father-esque figure and DNA originator; While he's listed in the relationships area, it's more of his existence that affects X-23 during her youth. To become like him more and more, the original Weapon X, was an ideal The Facility had and she was tortured and abused to make this happen to her utmost ability. She has not met Wolverine yet, but there is no denying that it is fated to happen and change everything. He haunts her and it has yet to be seen what this could mean. - Dr. Zander Rice {deceased.}
- A tormenting scientist from the Facility; While not the lead on the project that created her, he was the most cruel to her in many ways. He tried to abandon her in field, would treat her animalistic manner within his care, created the trigger that killed both her childhood Sensei and then Sarah Kinney. When X-23 murdered him viciously on her way out of the compound, she had not needed a trigger to do so.
- Zebra Daddy
- Pimp; A criminal that overshadowed much of her time in New York City and was the reason she had become a teenage prostitute. - Kimura
- Former Handler; A sadistic mutant who wasX-23's greatest foe to date, back when she was at The Facility. She has indestructible skin and thus cannot be injured by any of her charge's attempts.
Powers / Abilities.
- Superior Senses and Strength. - Most recognized of these would be her vision, audition and olfaction abilities, though not limited to. Her innate auto-reflexes and agility, as well as her speed and balance and coordination are all heightened and would be considered superior, only on a slightly lesser scale than the aforementioned trio. These are all on superhuman level, that which would rival Wolverine's abilities in each field.
- Claws. - She has six retractable bone claws which have each been coated in adamantium. Unlike him, she has two in each arm and one in each foot. The number of things that could possible do damage to these is so dramatically low that they are considered virtually unbreakable and would be capable of cutting any substance.
- Healing/Longevity. - One of the more notable abilities that she had received as Wolverine's clone. Not only would she age at a heavily decreased rate due to her regenerative cells, but she was not susceptible to illness or most known toxins. With this immunity in place, it was only the rare drug at an elevated dosage that would be able to cause her any sort of harm or impairment. Overall, her healing would be accelerated at such a rate where she would be able to attach a severed limb within seconds with speed and efficiency, leaving no mark afterward.
- Stamina. - Seemingly tireless, physically.
- Superior Intelligence. - Well educated in multiple related fields during her formative years meant she knew a lot about a lot. When the decisions need to be made in a clinical manner {essentially not attached to emotions}, she could be able to respond quickly and efficiently based on the knowledge she held that could come to her momentary aid.
Weaknesses.
- Trigger Scent. - When the scent is applied to something or someone, she cannot distinguish friend from foe and will be sent into a savage berserker.
- Healing Powers. - Capable of being over-taxed and vulnerable, or poisoned to slow or halt the process.
- Susceptibility/Mortality. - Sans a complete adamantium skeleton, her body is capable of breaking under extreme duress. She is a mutant, but not immortal.
- Stunted social skills. - Having been conditioned to operate in a specific manner, she is a fish out of water in most social settings and it can be rather obvious and uncomfortable for her to linger.
- Uncultivated, suppressed, and immature emotional state. - Also a conditioned response to her childhood, she was not only made to keep emotions at bay in all things, but she didn't know what to do with them when they would unexpectedly appear. This would cause her to seem unaffected most of the time, pushing her confusion and feelings inward.
- Haunting Past. - Has a hard time sleeping and is afflicted with nightmares more oft than naught. It is a weakness she'd be hard-pressed to admit willingly.
- Low value of Self. - Will injure herself purposefully and make poor decisions based on how little she cares of what happens to her, leading to rather suicidal situations. She sees herself as something less than mutant due to being a test-tube clone.
- Relationships. - She doesn't know how to have one.
Audition post.
"Your look of derision is unnecessary," the younger brunette clipped out in precisely even tones, her articulation flawless. The two females faced each other in a sparse and sterile gymnasium, a space that felt infinitesimally smaller with Kimura's near palpable hate radiating from her invulnerable body. Upon her entrance, X-23 knew her lesson was not that she would be able to win against the mutant created to rein her in, but to belittle into extinguishment what small sense of accomplishment that would slither its way into her mind after a successful mission. She needed to be humbled. There were a lot of successful missions.
"Animals only do what they're told, don't they? They don't have minds of their own nor should they be allowed such a privilege. Com'on, little bitch. Bark for mama," Kimura's malicious purr tripped after her thinly veiled demand, punctuating it with a definite period mark. Without hesitation X-23 ran, throwing herself forward at an angle of forty-five degrees from the ground a yard from her tormentor's feet with her arms out-stretched so that the balls of her hands could catch her weight and push off the padded surface, executing a smooth handspring that catapulted the smaller female high enough to latch her slender legs around her handler's throat, her arms embracing her skull. The subtlety of hard jerk that followed would have snapped a human's neck, but Kimura was not so easily thwarted. Instead, she allowed the momentum created by the action to drop the entwined pair to the mat and rolled into it, jerking to a stop only when her weight pressed X-23 into the floor. It took no more than a mere minute for the older and more experienced one to untangle the girl from her death grip around her cranium and wrestle her onto her back, moving into position to painfully press the bone of her elbow into the softness of X-23's neck. She froze beneath, green eyes assessing and calculating. She could counter, but any sort of repelling movement would cut off her air supply and make it all the more difficult to stay cognitive. Kimura existed to foil the Weapon X Program and she did so well.
"I want to hear you beg, little bitch. I want to hear you whine and beg that I don't break you repeatedly until you forget your own name," a thoughtful look crossed her visage, nearly softening her sharp features. "What is your name again? Letter Dash Number Number." A wicked grin flattened her lips against her teeth, baring her canines in an eerily natural manner. "I've seen more thought put into the expiration dates on milk cartons." Although there was no begging to be elicited from the silent mutant mutinously staring up at her, nor time given for it should she attempt, Kimura crushed her windpipe.
---
"You haven't answered my question!" A child tugged on Laura's shirttail, an insistent motion that gave her the notion it wasn't his first attempt to gather her attention. She tilted her head downward expectantly to show him her awareness now belonged to him and his unforeseen issue. He didn't appear upset in the slightest, but rather like a conversation was being had and he didn't care much for the one-sidedness of it all. The only perceptible sign that she was confused was the flutter of her ebony lashes, a strive to brush away the lingering fogginess that clung in the wake of a memory.
"Which is?" She hadn't a clue. A quick cursory glance about reminded her of the city bus stop she had settled at, which had since filled with all sorts of individuals during the length of her mental absence. Where was the child's keeper? It was not she.
"I said, do you like dogs? I once had a puppy named Hiccup!" His corresponding grin would have been infectious to most, but Laura found her own returning smile to be small and humorless, distancing herself from the happy boy without having to shift bodily.
"No. I do not like animals."
