Character Time Line
Character Origin (part 1): (Comics, X-men t.v. show.)
Character Origin (Part 2): I’m basically going off of information gathered in research of the character, memory and what feels right. The later years are left vague purposely as the specific plot will depend on which characters are available for the RP and which aren’t.
Year 1 (1992)
-Remy is Born
-Abandoned by his birth parents due to his demonic eyes
-Taken in by the thieves guild.
-Believed to be a child of prophecy, given to a street gang for training in thievery.
Year 2 (2002)
-Attempts to pick the pocket of the head of thieves guild
-Adopted into the Patriarch’s family.
Year 3 (2008)
-Offered up as an arranged marriage to unite the thieves and assassin’s guild.
-’Prince’ of the assassin’s guild objects and challenges Remy to a duel in which Remy kills him.
-Remy is forced out of the thieves guild in order to keep peace with the assassin’s guild.
Year 4 (2015)
-Remy encounters the X-men during one of his ‘jobs’
-Continues to apply his skills as a master thief while foiling occasional attempts on his life from the assassin’s guild.
Year 5 (2016)
-Takes a job stealing classified documents from the U.S. government and succeeds
-Upon realizing that these files are too dangerous to be placed in the wrong hands, destroys them.
-Grudgingly seeks out Professor X and the X-men to help stop the organization that paid for the documents Remy destroyed.
Significant relationships
(I’ve only included the people from Gambit’s origins on purpose, I’d like to take him from 0 and allow the relationships he forms with other X-men to happen naturally through RP.)
Jean-luc-Lebeau - Leader of the Thieves Guild and Remy’s adoptive father. The man was first introduced to Remy when he picked Jean’s pocket. The man saw skill in the young man and took him off the street, honing his talents as a thief while also teaching the boy how to defend himself. Remy respected Jean-luc and appreciated all the knowledge he passed on.
Bella Donna Boudreaux - Remy and Bella met during Remy’s time on the streets and over time became friends, neither knowing that the other belonged to a rival guild. Thier friendship flourished even as the situations between the guilds grew more tense, as a solution their marriage was arranged, an act meant to unify the guilds once and for all. Immediately after the wedding however, Bella’s brother challenged Remy in a battle to the death, Remy won, killing Julien in the process and in order to avoid all out war, the Thieves guild agreed to banish him from New Orleans. Remy accepted the judgement and though Bella Donna offered, left his bride behind.
Julien Boudreaux (deceased) - Due to his family’s status within the Assassin’s guild, Julien was never fond of his sister's relationship with Remy, this dislike was called to a head when the two guilds arranged for them to be married. No longer able to contain his rage, Julien challenged Remy to a duel where he was killed. Remy was exiled from the thieves guild in order to keep the peace. While Remy regrets the altercation ended in the man’s death, he was defending himself and bears little guilt.
Powers / Abilities
(List as many as you need)
Molecular acceleration - Gambit is able to charge the particles of an object in several different ways, the larger the object, the more time the charge takes and he is only able to charge objects by touching them directly. Due to this slight hinderance, Gambit prefers charging smaller objects in the heat of battle. Every object charged has a maximum capacity of the energy it can contain, the bigger the object the more energy that can be charged.
Boosting- Gambit has the ability to charge himself or others, temporarily granting the affected individual superhuman speed, endurance and agility. This combined with his already acrobatic fighting style makes him quite the martial opponent and can vastly improve the combat performance of allies.
Charging - Explosion - By charging inanimate objects, Gambit is able to turn them into explosives that denote, he has the ability to delay these explosions but only briefly and his control over the energy allows him to choose between pure concussive force (meant to knock out an opponent) explosions or more distracting explosions (I. e. flash bangs.)
Charging - Kinetic Force - As opposed to turning things into explosives, Remy can also enhance the kinetic force emitted from objects, most often seen with his bo staff through focused charging Remy is able to ‘charge’ his strikes allowing them to exert more force, like with the explosions the more potent the charge the longer it takes to do.
Boosting- Regeneration - Gambit is able to speed up the molecules in his body in order to heal wounds, this process however is extremely difficult and therefore only used in dire circumstances with severe life threatening injuries and even then the wounds are rarely healed completely.
Power of Persuasion - Gambit emits a wavelength that naturally makes people more compliant, the less intelligent or aware the individual is the more susceptible they are to it’s effects, it’s nearly useless on telepaths and people that are aware it’s occurring.
Telepathic Shielding - Because of the naturally charged nature of Gambit’s body his mental defences provide interference similar to static on a television when telepaths attempt to enter his mind. Weaker telepaths finding the experience trying, Professor level and above would see it as little more than a mild annoyance.
Weaknesses
(List as many as you need)
Hands on - Gambit’s main forms of attack and the use of his powers all require a relatively close distance. In order to charge anything he must make contact with his skin on the object he wishes to charge giving him a vast disadvantage against long ranged opponents and opponents that can separate him from his weapons.
Charging time - Charging an object or boosting an ally requires time, while smaller objects take less than a second, speedsters and other quick foes can disrupt his ability to use his power to it’s full potential.
Choice Education - While Gambit is comfortable on the streets and knows all there is to know about any kind of lock or clasp one can think of, his education was rather limited to the skills he’d need as a thief and in life to get by. Not ‘stupid’ by any means he does lack the finer points of a standard education.
Audition post
The jukebox blared loudly from the corner of the bar, it was small tucked away and home to the more shady individuals the world had to offer, aptly named ‘The Hole in the Wall’. Gambit had come to enjoy the company it offered, different women every night, a cold beer always on tap and no one too interested in your business, at least not openly. Currently the raging cajun had seated himself in the center of the room, his back to the bar and a beer in hand, simply taking in tonight’s atmosphere. It was the server, a blonde he’d seen many times that approached him first. “Well, if it ain’t Remy, been awhile since we seen you around here.” Gambit turned his head casually, a small smile spreading to his lips. “Dat is true, chere, it been a long while since I come ‘round. You know what dey say, though, all roads lead to home?” A small chuckle left the woman as she took a seat at the edge of the bar. “That’s true, plan on sticking around this time?” Gambit shrugged, bringing his beer to his lips and draining a bit of the liquid inside. “Can’t really say, depends on how long it is fo’ someone come to run me out.” As if the man had sealed his fate with the words, to pub’s door opened loudly, three large men, bikers by the looks of them, strolled into the center of the room, the middle most man, a meaty fella with a thick beard that near touched his belly button pointed directly at Gambit. “You got somethin’ belongs to us, Lebeau.”
Gambit recognized the men immediately, three members of The Outlaws texas charter, Big Jim, Skunk and Torque, where they got their names he wasn’t sure. “Do I? De way I see it, friend, dat bike belong to me till it’s paid fo’.” A silence had fell over the room, any and all patrons not willing to get involved had slowly began moving away from the center of the room. “You dirty thieving gypsy, you were three days late on delivery, can’t expect full price for a job that sloppy.” Gambit smirked, pushing off from the counter and coming to his feet. “You was wrong about where I’d find de damn ting, can’t be blamed for bad information. So, you an your friends dere can go ahead and get de money you owe me and I’ll give you de bike, simple as dat.” The three men stepped forward, hatred and greed in their eyes. “I got a better idea, Gambit, me and my friends here are gonna take the keys off you and then take the bike, simple as that.” Remy nodded, his face growing hard, though the slight presence of a grin was still noticeable.. “You can try, Big Jim, but I gon’ tell you now, ain’t gon be dat simple.” Turning away from the men, Gambit removed a stack of bills from his pocket and tossed them onto the counter and looking to the server that had addressed him earlier. “Give dat to Mack, chere, for de damages.”
Like a starting pistol, the money smacked the counter and the three men charged. Gambit was prepared, spinning to face them, his right hand snapped, extending his staff. Jim was the first to come into range, Remy let the spin continue, dodging the man’s straightforward charge and allowing the end of the staff to meet with the middle of his back, pushing Jim further away before turning the momentum and driving the staff straight into the gut of Skunk, the man on Jim’s left. Gambit’s feet didn’t stop moving pushing forward until Skunks smaller form was thrown over one of the nearby pool tables. “Care to try again, friend?” Jim still reeling from the shot to the spine, Torque stepped up, grabbing one of the many chairs nearby and raising it over his head. Gambit’s hand was quick, a single playing card thrown like a dagger shot forth, striking the center of the chair and shattering it to splinters in the man’s hand. A howl of agony left Torque’s lips as his hands moved to his face. “Dat gotta hurt.” Having recovered, both Skunk and Jim charged simultaneously, reaching for the man in attempt to pin him between the two. Gambit drove his staff down and leaped, using the leverage to launch himself into the air, the man turned, tucking his knees to his chest and then extending them directly onto Skunk’s shoulders. Skunk fell fast, his head bouncing off the bar’s hardwood floor. Jim still charging, the end of Gambit’s staff began to glow a bright violet, his black and red eyes staring at the man in front of him until the last second. His staff shot forward, the end catching the man in the chest. Jim flew back, as if he’d been shot from a canon his body sailed until it collided with the bar, turning end over end and not stopping until it smashed into the liquor rack. Gambit wasted no time celebrating, his pace casual as he brushed through the now cluttered and disorganized collection of tables to the wailing Torque. “I’m gonna fucking kill you, you cajun rat.” He smiled before turning on the spot and bringing the slat side of his foot into the man’s neck, his body slumped and he was out. “You gon’ take a nap firs’ friend.”
With the rowdiness settled, Gambit took a look around, the bar was damaged, severely, it was to be expected, the felt of the pool table ripped, a chair destroyed, several tables cracked or broken by the force of his card and of course, the smashed bar. Gambit sighed and went from biker to biker, emptying their pockets and placing anything of value he found on the bar with the money he’d already deposited. His hand went to his hat, hanging on a hook and placed it on his head. “Sorry, fo’ de mess, chere, dat should cover it.” With another flick of his wrist his staff was collapsed and attached once more on the inside of his coat before exiting the building. Once outside Gambit soon went to the bike the men inside had mentioned, placing the key into the ignition he turned the engine over. “It’s a shame, I was act’ully startin’ to like dat place.” A new town, new work and the next watering hole awaited, so he kicked the motorcycle into gear and aimed for the nearest highway and the next land of opportunity.
