Significant relationships
Professor Xavier – The Professor serves as the initial reason Kitty was not only able to join the X-men, but as her main mentor and friend. He understood the way she needed to be explained things and gave great patience through her exciteable and wild teenage years. He served as a sort of father to her and she holds him in the highest respect as such.
Logan(Wolverine) – While the relationship is commonly an annoyance, her friendship with Wolverine is one that has taken years to form and grown stronger for it. He is her mentor in the ways of not only fighting and combat, but also understanding a different side to human nature that the Professor could not show her. Wolverine is sort of a stiff Uncle in her eyes and though he can get on her nerves at times or have her question is personal habits, she cares for him deeply.
Piotr Rasputin (Colossus) – Piotr was her first real crush beyond something of a flimsy teenage wish. She has always found his gentlemanly personality and exotic accent as alluring aspects that have curiously drawn her in over the years. While she’s never told him how she feels, for many reasons, those feelings have never faded over time and instead have stayed in the trunk of her heart locked away.
Emma Frost – Forever viewed by Kitty as an untrustworthy villain, the Ice Queen will never win over Kitty’s trust or hardly her respect. There’s just something about Emma’s ways that Kitty has always seen as severely manipulative and calculative, two things she views as something that seperates a person from their humanity and gives way to viewing the world in a way that will surely lead to its destruction. Kitty openly distrusts and severely dislikes Emma, even to her face, Kitty isn’t afraid to share her feelings.
Powers / Abilities
Phasing – The ability to move through objects, even people, as a ghost might. This process can be done with any part of her body at will or all of it. She is able to phase while clothed, with objects, with other people, it just takes a different manner of focus. The more the phasing for time or the bigger the item or people, the more energy and focus it requires. Phasing is explained as that she is able to speed up the atoms in her form at such a fast rate that she is intangible. The denser the object, the more will it takes to phase through it to the point of even causing Kitty pain. Adamantium, known for being extremely dense a material, is proven that she can phase through it. She is able to phase for long distances and still breathe, however this science has not quite been explained as to how.
Intelligence- Kitty is exceptionally intelligent, specializing in computers and technology. Her mature knowledge and focused intelligence leads to aiding in many ways for the X-men.
Air Walking – Changing the frequency that her atoms move in comparison to the space around her, she is able to manage the illusion of walking on air. This is not at all an ability to fly, it is merely the ability to walk on air and either gain or lose altitude.
Electrical Disruption – Upon phasing through normal substances such as walls, flooring, etc, the substance is seemingly unaffected. However, electrical work in things such as computers and wiring don’t seem to agree with the changing of the rapid-fire atoms in Kitty’s body. Phasing through anything electrical results in a complete disruption and usually complete destruction of the substance. Computers will completely crash, misfire, spark and even catch fire and blow up.
Telepathic Disruption – While phasing, telepaths and telepathic abilities are unable to sense or connect to Kitty’s mind, further keeping them from being able to affect her. This is only while she is actively phasing and upon solidifying, she is once again vulnerable.
Mental/Physical Disruption – Phasing through a human leaves the person feeling strange and somewhere in between a body hiccup and losing the air out of their lungs briefly. It’s as though they’ve completely lost their track of thoughts for a moment, much like a computer glitching on pause before catching back up. But upon phasing through a person too long can result in loss of consciousness for the victim, even slight memory loss. Kitty doesn’t have to phase her whole body through them by any means, merely phasing a hand into their head for a moment with given focus, she can render the person unconscious but has very rare little to no control of potential memory loss.
Mutant Ability Adaptation/Possession – The ability to phase into another person and take over their body. This ability is extremely new and uncontrolled to Kitty as she is just now experimenting and learning it. The science of it is lost, but it seems something ethereal for her to phase into a person and control their body for the briefest of times. Each time she practices she gets a little closer to understanding and controlling it, but it requires an extreme amount of focus and energy and completely wipes Kitty out after. Phasing into a mutant gives Kitty control of their body, and even, their mutant abilities for as long as she has control of their body. But not only does this action rob Kitty of her energy, it also usually leaves the victim fainting and being very drained of their own energy. This ability is very new and highly unstable.
Weaknesses
Extremely Dense Materials – The denser the material, the harder it is for Kitty to phase through it.
Altitude Changes – Extreme changes in altitude disrupt Kitty’s focus and her energy put toward phasing.
Solid State – Upon solidifying, Kitty is just as vulnerable to other abilities as a human. She cannot protect herself, mind or body, unless she is currently phasing.
Electricity- If hit with a large amount of electricity while in a solid state, Kitty has a hard time focusing her body to properly do as she commands either staying solid or phasing
Audition post
“Danger Room, ID 4176.” Her voice echoed in the metallic room, the cold feel to it something natural to her at this point, but it still held that unfeeling lack of warmth. Still, furnishing the Danger Room wouldn’t quite be possible nor necessary.
The computer answered back over the speakers all around, as cold and to the point as the walls themselves. “ID Confirmed, Welcome, Kitty Pryde.” Kitty adjusted her yellow gauntlets as she cleared the room to the middle and flexed her shoulders and rolled her neck in preparation, feet kicking gently to get them ready.
“Run Arena Setting.” As the order was given, the Danger Room obliged. The room, something like the size of a football field only rounded, hummed to life and brought the surroundings that the program ran for. Kitty had designed this one in particular, and it had taken at least a week of coding to get it where she wanted. Naming it “The Hunger Games” would have been to obvious and she was sure she’d get looks from Wolverine and a few others for it, so the name was her little secret way of getting a good idea in without being to obvious. The Danger Room mimicked the settings she’d programmed in, a large arena, one part beach, one part jungle, one part suburban. They weren’t meant to look natural, just sudden and a different challenge in each, something to challenge her to adapting her skills in combat with less need of transition. After all, the field didn’t give you time to adjust your settings.
The mutant known as Shadowcat took to a sprint, the jungle her surroundings. Parrots squawked and monkeys cried as she leapt over logs and swung from vines. The canopy took away most of the light save for the few rays that escaped down the layers of trees and it affectively gave the hidden shooter the advantage. A red beam shot and just barely missed her legs as she swung them over a fallen tree. The beam blasted into the bark and shot its remnants into the air. Kitty landed in a roll and took cover a moment before getting behind a thick tree that stretched to the top of the canopy. Focusing, she stepped up into the air and gained ground as she walked upward with the tree trunk as protection from the direction of the blast. Once she was a decent height, she phased through the tree and emerged on the other side, perching in a crouch as she scanned for the origin. But the sound of something mechanical on the tree trunk behind her caught her attention and she turned to find a piece of the bark opening and sliding out a small gun aimed at her head.
She gasped and phased at once, her body dropped through the limbs one after another, before solidifying and landing hard. The branch beneath her now wasn’t thick enough however and it crackled with warning before giving way. Kitty propelled herself from it as best she could and went soaring into the air, arms outstretched for the hanging vines. A shot rang out from a new direction entirely and the red beam glowed in her peripherials just in time for her to phase and miss being hit in the torso. It took quick focus to solidify her arms to grab onto the vines at the same time or she’d have splat on the jungle floor. With her body swinging to and fro, she took a breath and raised her head to find a rather colorful parrot staring at her.
It squawked and she frowned, “Shut up, at least I didn’t hit the ground.” The parrot opened it’s mouth in reply and let out a loud alarm like that of a security system. It’s eyes lit up red and it flapped its wings, and in answer, every parrot near by did the same, and further away more echoed the alarm. “Damnit, Paulie!” Kitty pulled herself up on the vine and waved a hand, phasing through the alarm bird and watching the mechanical bits go haywire before exploding into sparks. But the sound of something electric hummed from the other end of the jungle, rapidly getting closer. She could see the blue arcs of electricity racing along the vines hanging from the trees after her.
With a race against time, and a decision of either getting electrocuted, something that did more damage than most things to her abilities, or falling and taking a hard hit to the jungle floor, was made. She let go of the vines as well as phased at the same time. Had she not phased, she was sure she’d have felt the sudden sting of electricity coursing through her, but instead she went tumbling to the green floor below. Ahead of her, between two trees, a sheet of solid metal raised up, then another connecting to it, and another. They began to box her in. Kitty kicked up at once and phased through the wall, sprinting. Ahead of her, another raised up. She phased. Then another. She phased again. Another rose up and she was sure this was going to become too draining at some point, so instead, she phased down into the jungle floor and moved out of reach, emerging from the floor again to find herself in the suburban environment setting. Panting slightly, crouched as she took in her surroundings, Shadowcat moved to continue her training.
